There has been a lot of talk recently about a supporter of John Edwards having a romantic relationship with him. These reports have been pretty well debunked. However, I have searched around, asking friends that that pay much more attention to these sort of stories that I do, and I finally found the key video.
In the video, a long time Edwards supporter who not only is in an amazing romantic relationship with with Sen. Edwards, but also, is reported to have given birth to children as a result of this relationship, spills the beans about this on a YouTube video.
Check it out: here!
Absolutely must see video!
I've never been a big fan of polls and handicapping political races. It somehow seems that besides not being particularly accurate, it promotes an approach to politics and leadership that isn't particularly beneficial for our country. Today, I read a few blog posts and a bunch of emails that has gotten me to think a lot more about this.
First, Jerome Armstrong has a post up suggesting the 2008 Democratic Nomination is Hillary's race to lose. Mostly, Armstrong was talking about the fake self-proclaimed "movement" that exhausts me of Obama>. Is the race really already over?
One of the things that everyone talks about is how the polls, this far out, don't really mean much. There are the standard comments about how well Lieberman was doing in the polls at this point in the cycle.
It was a year ago, this coming Friday, that Senator Barack Obama put up a podcast about Network Neutrality.
It is because the Internet is a neutral platform that I can put out this podcast and transmit it over the Internet without having to go through any corporate media middleman. I can say what I want without censorship or without having to pay a special charge. But the big telephone and cable companies want to change the Internet as we know it. They say that they want to create high speed lanes on the Internet and strike exclusive contractual agreements with Internet content providers for access to those high speed lanes.
I applaud him for those comments. However, an entry on techPresident, Did Facebook Play Favorites with Obama? raises some interesting questions.
Yesterday, Jim Himes filed with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to set up a campaign to run for Congress against Rep. Chris Shays yesterday. Reports about Jim's campaign can be found in the mainstream media at Stamford Advocate (and the Greenwich Time and the Hartford Courant), the Connecticut Post, The Stamford Times (and Wilton Villager and Norwalk Hour), The Journal-Inquirer, Channel 30, and The Associated Press (Via channel 8).
Just in: I just received a voicemail from the Office of the President at Cingular Wireless concerning my complaint about them blocking my calls to a specific FreeConference.com number in Iowa. They were calling to let me know that they have unblocked that number.
Is there more to this story? Anyone who has any other information about the battle between AT&T and FreeConference.com, please let me know what you are hearing.
(For those who don't know the back story, check this story and this story.)
This morning, The New York Times ran a good story about Sen. Edwards and the blogs. After my post yesterday, "I am Amanda Marcotte" as well as the Facebook group I set up, and after Sen. Edwards statement (NewsTrust Review), I've received a lot of personal comments and questions.
I've been blogging for years and on the Internet much longer. An enterprising investigator can find stupid things I wrote online twenty-five years ago. I've been hired by campaigns to blog for them. I've been told what I can and can't write about. I've had things that I've written, both before and during campaigns criticized, and I've had people try to prevent me from getting jobs or get me fired because of things that I've written. It is for that reason, that I believe who writes anything online, whether they be liberal or conservative needs to stand with Amanda and Melissa.
On Hardball the other night Sen. Edwards said,
"Running before makes you focus on something different. Instead of focusing on how crowds respond to you and what everybody seems to love of you. That's not the test for being president. The test for being president is are you the best person to occupy the Oval Office and be the leader of the free world? Because literally the future of the world is at stake here. This is not about popularity and excitement."
It seems as if many of us here have worked on presidential campaigns in the past and perhaps we need to focus on something different as well. What does make someone a great presidential candidate?
